Located in the southern Peruvian highlands, the city of Arequipa is Peru's second city in urban and economic development.
It is also named "The White City" for the use of white volcanic
rock in the construction of the buildings throughout the city.
The Convent of Santa Catalina, opened to the public in
1970 after 400 years of cloistered religious life, is the most
characteristic feature of the city, followed by the Sabandia Mill, the
Founder's Mansion, the Main Square and the beautiful countryside, among

Colca Canyon, some 150 kilometers from the city, is one of
the most beautiful sites in the Peruvian highlands.
Enjoy the second
deepest canyon in the world after Cotahuasi canyon, also in Peru, as well
as small towns and villages that maintain their ancestral customs even
today, beautiful colonial homes, churches carved in white volcanic stone,
the Valley of the Dwarf Volcanoes, stone carvings, llamas, alpacas,
condors, thermal baths, etc. A highly recommended and unique experience.

PM: City tour Arequipa plus Santa Catalina Convent (private)
In the morning, a city tour of Arequipa including the Main Square, one
of the most beautiful squares in Peru and the Cathedral, a prime example
of XIXth Century Peruvian architecture housing beautiful treasures in
gold and silver. We also visit the La Compañia Church, an ancient Jesuit
temple, maybe the most important one in Arequipa due to its history and
tradition. Then, we will visit the Santa Catalina Convent a "Small Town"
built in the XVIIth Century and opened to the public in 1970, after 400
years as a cloister. Perfectly preserved for four centuries, you go back
in time as you enter the cloister and see the numerous, spacious patios
and gardens, the kitchen and slave quarters and stone washtubs. About 20
nuns, of what were once 500, still live in a section of this Convent.
Return to you hotel. Overnight in Arequipa
Day 2 Arequipa / Colca Valley (B,L,D)
breakfast we will head towards the Colca Valley, passing through the
towns of Yura, Pampa Arrieros and the Aguada Blanca & Salinas National
Reserve, the perfect place to see an array of bird species and South
American camelids in their natural habitat, and where we will see the
other faces of the Arequipa volcanoes Misti and Chachani. We will
continue on our way, through Torja and its natural lagoons, Patahuasy,
Chucura, Patapampa – from which we will see the volcanoes of the Chira
Mountain Ranges – and then finally arriving at the town of Chivay. We
will have dinner and stay the night here.

Day 3 Colca / Valley / Arequipa (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. The early morning excursion reaches an
observation point, on a wide bend, where a wooden cross called CRUZ DEL
CONDOR has been erected. The view from here is breathtaking: one can see
the silvery thread of the Colca River flowing below in the roar of the
canyon, while majestic condors soar overhead using the warm air currents
from the canyon depths to rise towards the high peaks. Here the chasm is
1,200 mts. deep, but the highest part of the canyon wall on the other
side is more than 3,000 meters above the river level, and permanently
snow capped. Return to Chivay. On the way visit the Colonial church of
Maca and Yanque. Lunch included. Return to Arequipa and transfer to the
